The National Electrical Code (NEC) is updated every three years, and each revision introduces new requirements that affect how wiring, panels, grounding, and protective devices must be installed. A circuit that met the standard a decade ago may no longer satisfy current rules, especially as arc-fault and ground-fault protection requirements continue to expand into more rooms and circuit types. Staying current with these changes is a core part of every job we handle at Sunshine Electrical Services, and it shapes how we plan, install, and inspect electrical work across residential and commercial properties.

Meeting code is not only about passing an inspection. A properly compliant system reduces long-term risk, protects your property, and preserves the value of your investment. Insurance claims are frequently denied when non-compliant wiring is found to be the cause of damage. When you sell a home or lease a commercial space, inspectors and buyers look closely at the electrical system, and hidden violations can delay or derail a transaction. Because we handle residential work, commercial projects, and system integrations, we approach every installation with the same standard. If power runs through it we can do it, and we make sure it is done to code.

Our Inspection and Correction Process

Before we begin corrective work, we evaluate the existing system to identify where it falls short of current requirements. This assessment covers the service panel, grounding and bonding, branch circuits, and connected devices. We look for common problems such as double-tapped breakers, undersized conductors, missing GFCI protection near water sources, and improperly buried junction boxes. Each finding is documented so you understand what needs attention and why.

Our correction methodology follows a clear sequence to keep the process organized and predictable:

  • Initial assessment: We inspect the panel, wiring, and devices to catalog every deviation from current code.
  • Prioritization: We separate safety-critical issues from items that improve the system but pose lower immediate risk.
  • Permitting: We pull the required permits so the work is recognized and inspected by the local authority.
  • Correction: We replace, repair, or upgrade components to meet the applicable code sections.
  • Final verification: We test each corrected circuit and confirm the installation passes inspection.

This structured approach keeps projects on track and gives you a written record of what was done. As a family-owned and operated company, we treat your property the way we would treat our own, and clear communication is part of every step.

Technical Requirements We Address

Modern code places strong emphasis on protective devices. Arc-fault circuit interrupters (AFCIs) are now required on most 120-volt branch circuits serving living areas, and they detect dangerous arcing that standard breakers ignore. Ground-fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs) protect areas exposed to moisture, including kitchens, bathrooms, garages, outdoor receptacles, and areas near pools. Proper grounding and bonding tie the entire system to a common reference point, which allows breakers to trip quickly during a fault and reduces shock hazard.

Panel capacity is another frequent concern. Older service panels rated at 100 amps often cannot support the demand of today’s appliances, HVAC systems, and electric vehicle chargers. We evaluate load calculations to confirm whether a panel upgrade is needed and size the new equipment to handle both current and anticipated demand. Conductor sizing, breaker coordination, and correct torque on terminations all factor into a safe, compliant panel.

Where Code Compliance Matters Most

Compliance issues show up in many settings. In older homes, we frequently correct outdated wiring, add required GFCI and AFCI protection, and replace panels that are no longer supported by manufacturers. During kitchen and bathroom remodels, code dictates outlet spacing, dedicated circuits for major appliances, and moisture protection that older layouts lack. For commercial spaces, tenant build-outs, lighting upgrades, and equipment installations must all satisfy code before occupancy is approved.

System integrations bring their own requirements. When we install cameras, alarm systems, and audio equipment, low-voltage wiring must be routed and secured according to code, and any connection to the main electrical system must be properly protected. We coordinate these installations so the finished system is both functional and compliant. Providing quality service at affordable prices is central to how we operate, and delivering solutions that meet code every time is how Sunshine Electrical Services protects the people and properties we serve.
